During the check of electricity transmission lines dead partridges were found

During the check of the electricity transmission lines in October 2017 – April 2018, in various places of Lithuania 51 dead birds were found (18 species). The most often among them - European Golden Plover (8) and Northern Lapwing (7). These birds in autumn compound large aggregates in the fields.
We would like to notice, that 16 birds were detected in one, relatively short section of the electricity lines in Biržai district. In this place 6 individuals of European Golden Plover, 2 Mallards, Northern Lapwing, Mute Swan, a few individuals of Turdus and European Robin were found.

It seems that it’s a birds’ migration corridor between two forests. This place was not equipped with the special markers for increasement of visualisation, therefore the LOD is planning to suggest to the AB LITGRID to upgrade this line until the next migration season.

Project staff also observed rather unexpected finding – four dead partridges. They were found in Naujoji Akmenė, Pasvalys and Ignalina districts. All birds were found in the stubble under the electricity lines. It’s possible that birds fall when flying between feeding places. These places were additionally marked with spiral type markers on the electrical ground.
